Munus 29 Day & Counting

Starting out as an event for local breeders to showcase their livestock, the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival has evolved into the year’s major yarn event in Maryland. Sponsored by the Maryland Sheep Breeders Association, Inc., the festival's purpose is to educate the public about sheep and wool (can't you just imagine some guy talking to a crowd of people saying; "This is a sheep. This is not a type of cow and is not available for dating or inter-species breeding..."). The Festival is organized and conducted by volunteers from the sheep breeding and fiber arts communities. There are events that show breeds in competition for breed standard, type and color. There is also competitions for sheep shearing and wool spinning, lamb/meat prep & cooking and crafting in wool. Vendors from around the country come to show and sell their crafts, equipment and services during the festival, but the largest grouping of people in attendance come for the yarn and an opportunity to find that special bargain in fiber or equipment. It runs for two days, the first weekend of May, but in a way, you prepare for it all year long. Do you shop to increase your stash or are you buying with a specific project in mind? Is knitting and crocheting enough for you are do you have to add just one more craft to your repartee like spinning or felting or dying or weaving or knotting or …? Do you really need that pattern for Alpaca pasties and chastity belt? The answer is of course yes to all of it. A good time is had by all. Even if you are not a fiberholic you can come to sample the best in carnival junk food and crafting demonstrations. Check out the link if you are interested.
